The Committee to Safeguard Journalists joined 20 other civil society teams contacting Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu to take out the suggested Maldives Media and Broadcasting Regulation Bill, advising it presents a major danger to press liberty and media self-reliance.
If passed, the expense would equip a brand-new state-controlled regulator with sweeping powers to put on hold media electrical outlets, block web sites, and impose hefty fines on reporters, in offense of the Maldives’ constitutional and worldwide commitments to complimentary expression.
