Chicago Cubs newbie Matt Shaw made headlines today both on and off the field.
Shaw was slammed by New york city Mets broadcaster Gary Cohen for missing a game to attend the funeral for his pal Charlie Kirk.
A day later, the rookie’s performance on the area silenced his doubters.
Cohen slammed Shaw on Tuesday evening throughout SNY’s broadcast of the Mets’ game versus the Cubs.
As Shaw concerned bat in the 4th inning, Cohen called his decision to attend Kirk’s funeral “weird.”

The remarks rapidly drew reaction online, but Shaw reacted on Wednesday.

The win snapped a five-game Cubs losing streak and maintained them securely in advance in the National League wild card race.
Shaw’s efficiency came after ESPN reported, he had made it clear he had no regrets concerning missing Sunday’s game for the memorial.
“I feel strongly in my belief that was suggested to be,” Shaw told the media.
He described that Kirk’s widow, Erika Kirk, texted asking him to go to the occasion in Glendale, Arizona.
“Whatever backlash comes is OK,” Shaw informed ESPN, including, he was “not worried in all.”
